Umesh completed Masters' Degree in Sociology, and Masters' Degree in Community Health. Have over 32 years (1991-2024) of professional experience, worked with UN Agencies (WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR, OCHA) and INGOs (NRC, SCI, GIZ, Merlin-UK, LWF) in humanitarian and development programs across the continents (Asia - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Nepal); (Europe-Ukraine), (Africa – Somalia, Mozambique, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Nigeria, and Liberia) in humanitarian (refugees & IDPs) emergency response programs. Have excellent skills in cluster and inter-cluster/partners coordination, cooperation with government, writing proposals and situation reports, donor relations, assessment and analysis, managed programs in conflicts, natural disasters, and disease outbreaks response settings.

 

Umesh has made high standards of achievements in all these humanitarian assistance missions and excellent professional experience in inter-cluster coordination, planning and monitoring of health, nutrition, education, protection including GBV, MHPSS and WASH sectors activities in humanitarian settings. Have excellent experience in leading teams in field offices, managing programs, funds/resources including HR with different employers in different countries. Have worked with WHO based at Pemba in the capacity of CD-Sub-National HC Coordinator (full time) and Interim National HC Coordinator (July-Oct. 2023). Coordination of Sexual and Reproductive Health is one of the key technical areas I have worked with during my professional tenures with WHO, UNHCR, UNICEF, Merlin-UK, and Save the Children.

I really feel highly privileged and encouraged receiving the prestigious American Award as an international recognition of my hard work across over 14 countries over 32 years of my life. This encourages me to continue working in the field of my professional expertise and deliver assistance/services to the people affected by the humanitarian crisis across the countries and places, and I will continue working and serving to help save the lives to the best of my skills and capacity as a humanitarian worker.
